Where to stay in Mgahinga National Park

 

Mgahinga National Park is surrounded by numerous safari lodges to stay due to their close geographical relationship with Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The lodges range from luxury to budget services and rates therefore guests have options to choose lodges that best suit their pockets.  Though there are many lodges within vicinity, it is wise to book with a lodge that is more accessible to the park.

Here are some of the famous safari lodges around Mgahinga National Park:

 

Mount Gahinga Rest Camp: The rest camp is situated on the edges of the park close to Ntereko park head offices. Half of its cottages have balconies overlooking the volcanoes. The lodge has a campsite to pitch tents.  It is so much of an eco place that it uses solar energy to light up its premises. Activities like nature walks, mount hikes and village tours can be arranged by the rest camp.

 

Chameleon Hill Lodge:  The lodge can be seen from far and near because of its colourful appearance. It is nestled on a forest hill overlooking Lake Mutanda and also offers sights of the Virunga ranges. It is a luxury lodge with sumptuous services. It is a great base to start any of the park activities in both Mgahinga and Bwindi impenetrable national parks.

 

Virunga Hotel:  It is established close to Ntereko park head offices. it offers both double and single occupancy. The rooms are self contained with great beddings. Great food and drinks are available at the restaurant and bar respectively.

 

Mount Gahinga lodge: Located close to Ntereko gate, Mount Gahinga Lodge is one of the few high-end lodges in Mgahinga national park. The lodge has both double and single rooms that are conducive and spacious with en-suite modern bathrooms and toilets. It has a world class bar and restaurants with professional service personnel. Mount Gahinga Lodge is truly heaven on earth!

 

Traveler’s Nest Hotel:  Located in Kisoro, traveler’s Nest hotel is one of the oldest accommodation facilities in Uganda. This is one of the places Dian Fossey stayed during her time in Virunga Conservation Area. It is a great rest spot for budget travellers.

 

Clouds Mountain Gorilla lodge:  This is one of the most sumptuous safari lodges around Kigezi region. It is situated in the natural areas of Kisoro. There are eight executive chalets designed with local materials like grass thatches and stone. The cottages come in single and double occupancy. The food served at the restaurant is so delicious.

 

Mutanda Lake Resort: Formerly known as Nkuringo Safari Lodge, Mutanda Lake resort is located on the shores of Lake Mutanda overlooking the remarkable mist ranges of Virunga. It has self contained permanent tents with exterior shades on each.  It is a favourite spot for budget travellers who wish to go gorilla trekking in Mgahinga national park and Nkuringa sector in Bwindi.

 

Bwindi Jungle Lodge:  it is a facility with self contained cottages with balconies facing Lake Mulehe.  It is 10 kilometres away from Kisoro Town, within the vicinity of Mgahinga, Nkuringo and Rushaga.

 

Amajambere Iwacu Community Camp:  This is a community initiative located close to the park gate. It is an economy staying place with banda and dorms. The bandas are self contained and dormitories have shared toilets and bathrooms. There are also campsites for nature adventure lovers.  In the evening, the camp organises Batwa cultural performances to entertain its guests.

 

Lake Mutanda Campsite: This is an eco rest place located 6 kilometres away from Kisoro town overlooking Lake Mutanda. Its proximity makes it a great base for travellers who are going for gorilla trekking experience in either Mgahinga national park or bwindi impenetrable national park.
