3 Days Self Drive Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls national park located in the north of Uganda about six hours away from Kampala, the capital is the oldest. Murchison Falls National park is the largest biodiversity in Uganda. A safari to Murchison falls national park is monumental. The visitor gets to encounter unique wildlife species that he/she has never seen before elsewhere and additionally experience the Nile, the longest river in the world.

Detailed Itinerary:

Day1: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park & Rhino Tracking at Zziwa

You will start off your trip early in the morning since you have to catch up with Zziwa rhino tracking experience. while on the road, you will have some stopovers along some road side towns to stretch and also buy some refreshments. As you reach Nakasongola district, you will branch off to Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary to encounter and interact with the only left rhinos in Uganda.

The rhinos are flabby and relaxed animals but dangerous. You will watch them from a distance as they graze around the fields. You will also sight other wildlife species like birds and monkeys at the sanctuary.

You will have lunch at Zziwa rhino sanctuary or when you get to Masindi town. You will then proceed to Murchison falls national park to get to your lodge for a night rest.

Day 2: Game drive, Launch cruise along the river Nile and Hiking to the top of the falls

In the morning, you will have breakfast and embark on the game drive in the northern sector of the Murchison falls  park through the Bugili game track and Nyamsiki. These are the two areas with the highest concentration of wildlife species in the park.

Through these game trucks, you will have a chance of sighting animals like the lions, elephants, buffaloes, warthog, elands, Uganda kobs, giraffes, hyena, olive baboons and a variety of bird species, most notably the rare shoebill that is found in the swampy grasslands on the margins of Nile and Lake Albert. The game drive will take about 3-4 hours and then get back to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, you will go for a boat ride to the up stream or down stream as this will depend on the option you will have booked for. You will explore the Nile on a lunch cruise and on this marine experience, you will encounter various aquatic species like Nile crocodiles, hippos, waterbuck, bird species like marabou storks, flamingos, egrets, cranes, fish peckers, eagles.
Big animals like the elephants and buffaloes will be spotted too sipping water to fully digest the graze of the day.   After 2-3 hours of the water experience, you will be dropped off at the Paraa dock and your driver guide will drive you back to your lodge for a night stay.

Day 3: Top of the falls hike– Return to Kampala

After your morning meal, you will go to the top of the falls, to witness the Nile forcing its way through a narrow path to make a powerful water fall into the Nile basin. The top of the falls is a very good area for photography. After the hike, you will drive to Kampala for your trip and hand the vehicle back to the operator.
